It is that time of year again. March is Music in Our Schools Month or MIOSM. We may carry the event into April as different projects are announced that the students can do to bring awareness and celebrate having music in our schools. #MIOSM #MusicIsAllOfUs #MusicEdFunding The theme of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®) 2023 is “Music Is All of Us.” MIOSM is a national event to celebrate and raise awareness around the importance of music education for all students—and to remind citizens that school is where all students should have access to music. Music educators from across the country use MIOSM as a platform to bring students, families, local community members, and state and local elected officials’ attention to their school’s music program and the benefits that music provides to students of all ages. from nafme.org

February really was February Full! For me it was attending the South Carolina Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference and participating in the face to face day of South Carolina Arts Advocacy Week activities sponsored by the South Carolina Arts Alliance. We were able to meet with our local legislators to inform them on the impact of the arts in our communities. We also thanked them for their support of the arts. I also was awarded another South Carolina Arts Commission grant for the Marion Intermediate School music program. It will allow us to use the items from the last SCAC grant and have an artist in residence. I am looking forward to what we will get done this semester once our items are here. It is thanks to our state legislators that grants are available for us to improve our arts programs.
February Update:
I would like to thank Mrs. Hunn's homeroom for their awesome performance for the Black History Program. Also, I had some excellent assistants to thank in Jamariion Grant, Stephon Bethea, and Jovonte' Fling. |
